
In 1990, Heartland Community College was established by the Illinois General Assembly as the most recent public community college in Illinois, joining the nation’s third largest community college system. Sections of Tazewell, McLean, Ford, Livingston, Woodford and DeWitt counties make up Heartland Community College District 540. The combined population for these communities is approximately 230,000.
Heartland serves its District residents with three campuses, which include a primary campus in north Normal and extension centers located in the downtown hubs of Pontiac and Lincoln, IL. Geographically centered in the state, the College’s main campus is convenient to the intersection of major highways I-55, 74 and 39 as well as regional access to Amtrak and the Central Illinois Regional Airport.
Heartland’s main campus in Normal resides on 256 acres of land, 96 acres of which was purchased in October 2010 for strategic future growth.
Heartland Community College is recognized by the Illinois Community College Board and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association, 30 North LaSalle Street, Suite 2400, Chicago, Illinois 60602-2504, (800) 621-7440. Heartland has chosen the AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Program) path to maintain its accreditation and was accepted as an AQIP college in October 2005.
Every student has the right, upon request to the College, to obtain information and statistics about policies and procedures regarding crimes and law enforcement on campus. The College complies with provisions of the Campus Security Act. Health emergencies should be handled by dialing 911. Visitors may view the crime statistics for Heartland Community College.
