Heartland Community College Athletics

Welcome to Heartland Community College and the excitement of the Hawks' athletic program.

Where do the Hawks play?

The Corn Crib is now on campus and ready for use. The stadium is sport turf and serves as both the home field for Heartland athletics and the new Independent League Team, the CornBelters. The stadium is East of Heartland's main campus at 1000 West Raab Road, Normal, IL.

How are the Hawks competing?

Heartland is proud of the way it was represented in its first four years of Mid-west Athletic Conference competition. The Hawks' softball team again made its way to the 2011 NJCAA D-II Softball National championship for their fourth year. The Hawks' baseball team finished the regular season ranked first nationally, won conference for the second straight year, took home first place at the Region 24 tournament and qualified for the program's first ever NJCAA D-II World Series. Both the men's soccer team and women's soccer team experienced its own successes during the fall 2010 season setting the tone for the fall 2011 season. Men's soccer produced the national leading scorer, Javier Torres and finished 13-4-1 on the season.

How are the Hawks doing academically?

For their performance on the field and in the classroom Heartland's athletes: Steven Calrson (Men's Soccer), Ricky Wright (Men's Soccer), Michael Collins (Baseball), Mitch Tielke (Baseball), Aaron Smith (Men's Soccer), Zac Johnson (Baseball), and Nick Pagluica (Men's Soccer) were named as 2011 Academic All-Conference Athletes. Heartland also had three athletes receiving NJCAA academic awards in 2011, Steven Carlson, Zac Johnson and Elizabeth Walther. Men's soccer player, Javier Torres was named to the D-I Men's Soccer NJCAA All-American team. Softball standouts Hailley Haning and Hanna Mennenga were voted on to the 2011 NJCAA Division II All-American team. Baseball also had two athletes named NJCAA Division II All-Americans, Dylan Johnson and Zac Zellers. Zellers was named conference and Region 24 player-of-the-year, along with Johnson being named conference freshman-of-the-year. Chris Razo was named pitcher-of-the-year in the M-WAC and Coach Metzger earned the coach-of-the-year award in both Region 24 and the M-WAC.

Heartland Athletics is proud of the moderate success it has already experienced and looks forward to building on that success. The student-athletes at Heartland have upheld the values and expectations of the athletic department and will continue to do so into the future in order to build a proud tradition that starts in the classroom and extends to the playing field.
