Heartland CC shut the door early on Lewis & Clark Community College, capturing a 10-2 victory on Thursday at Lanphier Park, Springfield.
With five runs in the first three innings, Heartland CC left no doubt about the eventual outcome.
An RBI triple by Dylan Johnson and an RBI single by Mike Wieland in the first inning and a groundout by Cody Bobbit during the second inning supplied the early offense for Heartland CC.
Johnson put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for Heartland CC.
Matt Lynch picked up the win for Heartland CC. Lynch pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, three hits and no walks while striking out two.
Heartland CC's Chad Klein, Johnson and Mike Failoni combined for six hits and four RBIs.
5/12/2012 - The Hawks take two from Shawnee CC, winning 1-4 and 13-5 on Saturday in Ullin, IL. This gives Heartland the number one seed heading into the Region 24 Tournament on Thursday. Heartland will face-off against #8 Lewis & Clark CC at 11:00 AM on Thursday in Springfield at Lanphier Park.
5/8/2012 - Heartland squeaked out a 12-11 win vs. Elgin on Tuesday. The Hawks were up 12-3 in the sixth but allowed seven runs in the bottom of the eighth, they staved off the last run and kept Elgin hitless in the ninth to pull out the win. David Stagg got the win, striking out four. Clint Stroud got his ninth save of the season. Cody Bobbit was 3-6 with three RBIs and Mike Failoni went 3-4 with two RBIs.
5/6/2012 - The Hawks split with Parkland College over the weekend. Heartland won both on Saturday, 4-3 and 7-5 and they lost Sunday 3-2 and 4-1. The Hawks are still first in conference heading into the last week of conference play.
4/30/2012 - Former Heartland Hawk, Ty Wiesemeyer (Illinois State senior left fielder) was been Missouri Valley Conference baseball player of the week last week. Wiesemeyer had a .471 batting average, a .824 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage last week in four games against Illinois and Bradley. He collected a team-high 10 RBIs, including a grand slam, a triple and a double. Wiesemeyer also scored four runs and drew two walks.
4/30/2012 - Heartland CC Baseball is pleased to announce that sophomore, RHP, Clint Stroud (Olympia HS) has committed to play at Illinois State University next year. Clint becomes the 10th Heartland player to continue their career(s) at Illinois State in the past 4 years. Stroud is 3-0 on the 2012 season and has seven saves, with a 0.00 ERA.
4/29/2012 - The Hawks split with Lincoln Land CC on Saturday, falling 5-4 in the first and then winning the second game 5-4. Heartland's record is now 37-4 and 23-3 in conference.
4/25/2012 - Heartland baseball split with Lincoln on Wednesday. The Hawks lost game one 3-1 and managed and 8-7 victory in game two.
4/22/2012 - The Hawks went 4-0 over the weekend against Spoon River College. Game one on Saturday, Aaron Hauge struck out 10 in six innings. Andrew McCafferty went 2-3 with three RBIs in the 9-3 win.
Jeremy Stawychny was the starting pitcher for game two, throwing a complete game shut out with nine strikeouts. The Hawks won by the ten run rule ending the game 12-0 in the fifth. Mike Wieland and Aaron Vogt each had three RBIs.
On Sunday, the Hawks won 3-0. Matt Lynch was the winning pitcher, striking out six in five innings of work. Michael Collins drove in two runs and Andrew McCafferty was 2-3 and had one stolen base.
In the 11-2 win in game two, McCafferty had another big game, going 3-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Phil Toldo contributed with three stolen bases in the game. Matt Lambert was the
winning pitcher, striking out seven.
4/18/2012 - Freshman, David Stagg, earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of April 9 - April 15.
4/16/2012 - The Hawks split with John Wood CC on Monday, ending a 26 game win streak. The Hawks won the first game 7-3, with Dylan Johnson going 3-3 with a solo homerun in the sixth. Andre Sopena was also 3-3 in the game. Mike Failoni and Cody Bobbit each had two RBIs.
The Hawks got down early in game two with John Wood scoring one in the 2nd and 3rd and five runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Hawks answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third, making the game 7-3. Andrew McCafferty was 2-4 with three RBIs and closing the gap in the bottom of the eighth with a solo homerun making the score 10-7 but John Wood scored two more in the ninth and the Hawks couldn’t find an answer in the bottom of the ninth falling by a score of 12-7.
4/14/2012 - The Hawks were featured on WMBD 31.
4/11/2012 - Heartland defeated Lincoln College yesterday. David Stagg tossed a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts in the 13-0 game one win. Mike Failoni back after injury went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Andrew McCafferty was 3-5 and also drove in 2 runs. The Hawks racked up nine steals in the win.
The Hawks were down early in game two with Lincoln scoring one in the 2nd and one in the 3rd. Heartland scored one in the sixth but were still down 2-1 going into the ninth. The Hawks pushed through and scored three runs in top of ninth and held the Lynx scoreless in the bottom of the ninth winning 4-2 as Clint Stroud registered his 6th save of the year. Ryder Borre picked up his first win of the year by tossing 3 shutout innings. Ryan Byrne started and struck out eight in 5 innings. Failoni and Chad Klein both went 2-4 and Klein had 2 RBIs.
4/11/2012 - Heartland CC Baseball is pleased to announce that sophomore, RHP, Tyler Buhs (Gibson City HS) has committed to play at Campbellsville University in KY next year. Campbellsville is a NAIA school which typically is in the National Rankings.

4/6/2012 - Dylan Johnson hit a home run in both games as Heartland improved its record to 23-1 by beating Illinois Central College, 9-2 and 4-2, in a Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader in East Peoria. Cody Bobbit had four hits in the first game, while Johnson drove in three runs. Aaron Hauge (4-0) struck out 10 in five innings. Jeremy Stawychny (4-0) fanned nine in 7 1/3 innings of the second game, which improved Heartland to 10-0 in the MWAC. Write up courtesy of The Pantagraph

Game 2 - Fifth-inning rally sparks blowout win for Heartland CC, 12-2

A 10-run explosion in the fifth inning led Heartland CC to a 12-2 win in five innings over Danville Area Community College at
Corn Crib on Sunday.
Chad Klein racked up three RBIs on three hits for Heartland CC. Klein singled in the second and fifth innings and tripled in the fifth inning.
Cody Bobbit, Klein, Dylan Johnson, Mike Wieland, and Aaron Vogt all collected hits for Heartland CC. Vogt led the team with three hits.
In the bottom of the first, Heartland CC grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Bobbit kicked things off for Heartland CC with a single. A single by Vogt then moved Bobbit from first to second. Then a wild pitch scored Bobbit.
Game 1 - Johnson helps Heartland CC down Danville Area Community College 6-2
Dylan Johnson hit a home run and drove in two runners to help Heartland CC to a 6-2 victory in seven innings over Danville Area Community College on Sunday at Corn Crib.
Matt Lynch was a workhorse on the mound for Heartland CC. Lynch pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out two.
Heartland CC ran seemingly at will on the basepaths, finishing with seven steals. Cody Bobbit, Chad Klein, and Aaron Vogt each had one stolen base.
The game was never in doubt after the first, as Heartland CC scored two runs on a sacrifice fly by Klein and an RBI single by Mike Wieland.
One run in the top of the fourth helped Danville Area Community College close its deficit to 4-1. A groundout by Adams set off a Danville Area Community College rally. Heartland CC stopped the rally after Lynch got Burton to strike out.
Heartland CC built upon its lead with two runs in the fourth. The inning looked promising, as Andre Sopena singled, plating Andrew McCafferty to kick things off. That was followed up by a groundout by Bobbit that scored Phil Toldo.
After pushing across one run in the top of the seventh, Danville Area Community College faced just a 6-2 deficit. An RBI single by Burton gave Danville Area Community College life. Danville Area Community College's Black grounded out to end the ballgame.
